Broken Heart

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭147:3-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What do you do when your heart is broken? Maybe it’s from the loss of a child, a spouse, a parent, a friend or friendship. Whatever the reason when your heart is broken you feel like life is never going to be the same. You might feel like you will never smile again, you will never laugh again and somehow the sun doesn’t shine as brightly as it did before. When your heart is broken especially when it’s over the loss of someone you love whether it be to death or the loss of a relationship it physically hurts. It feels like your heart is broken into a million pieces that will never be able to be put back together again. How do I know this? Because I have had my heart broken more than once and let me say I hate the feeling. There were days I didn’t even want to get out of bed! At one point, when my heart began to heal, I realized I had not opened a single blind in my house for over a year. It’s awful, it’s horrible, and I know all of us would choose to not have to go through having our heart broken. The truth is though this is a part of life. So how do we get through this?

What I have found to be true is that Jesus Christ is the great healer! What is true is that God is the one who will always love us and never leave us! He was there for me in my darkest times. Jesus was the one who held me when all I could do was sob and cry because my broken heart hurt so bad. Jesus was the one who helped me put the pieces of my heart back together. One piece at a time. The cracks, the scars are still there but my heart is more beautiful than it was before. As I think about this I think about how beautiful a stained glass window is once it’s put together. The lines of where the different colors of glass have been put together can be seen but when the light shines through this glass it is so beautiful that the lines don’t matter.

You see that’s what our our broken hearts look like when they are put back together by Jesus. When the light of his love, mercy and grace shine through them.

When your heart is broken cry out to Him, lean on Him and rest in His arms knowing that you will smile again, laugh again and even open your blinds in your house once again. Having a broken heart is not the end. It is the beginning of a new masterpiece of God’s love beginning in your life. He loves you too much to let you stay in this place of despair and brokenness. I’m living proof of this truth!

Jesus walks through the Fire with you now and forever. Trust and believe!

Love to you all,

Gwen
