Prayer

“And it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray.’” Luke 11:1

My Wednesday, weekly devotional was on this subject, “A Life of Prayer”.

What does a Life of Prayer look like? Is it a list of requests, a list of concerns, a list of all the things we want for ourselves and for our family and friends? Yes, it can be that. But is that really the true meaning of prayer? And if not, what are we to do to fulfill this statement, “A Life of Prayer”?

In the devotional I was using it was said, “A literal definition of the word ‘pray is to ‘wish’ forward.” What this means is prayer should not be a list of requests or mere lip service. Prayer should be a heartfelt, genuine expression of our desire to seek God’s will for our lives.

I believe prayer is needed, now more than ever, in these days. We, as Christians are being characterized as extremists and even domestic terrorists in certain main stream media. This is deeply concerning and not really surprising. Those of us who say we are Christians here in the U.S. have really not experienced true persecution as many in other countries. Oh we might have been criticized for our words, how we live our lives and just for saying we are a follower of Christ. That is nothing compared to what may be coming?

I am not writing this to put fear in your hearts. I am writing this to prepare you and tell you that by strenghtening your prayer life, the reading of God’s Word and listening to God that this will give you the armor of God that you will need if that day ever comes where you are called to choose between Jesus Christ and the World.

Prayer is powerful! Let us all make it our priority today!! God is the God of miracles, hope, strength and wisdom! He goes before us in all things. We are told to be ready!! Let’s be ready my friends! Better days are coming one way or another!!
